Work At Home Tips - Organizing the Work Space in Your Home Office

Whether you work at home or you just have a home office for personal use, it is important that you are able to keep the clutter at bay. If your office is cluttered with things you don't need or is just simply unorganized, you're never going to be able to get anything done until you do have it organized.

First things first, look at your home office and look for anything that simply does not belong there and serves no purpose whatsoever. You can start by creating different piles or using different containers and bins to put stuff in.

Start off simple. You will need to have a spot to place all things that are a like together in one place. When separating your items, you will be able to figure out just what you will need to help organize things, whether it's a few extra shelves or if you may need a small filing cabinet. If you think you will need these items then put them in an area that will be easy for you to access later.

Once you have the different piles are put together of like items, you should see if you have a pile that has different computer cords and or hardware. Look at the pile good and see if things are outdated or if you have more than one of the same thing. If you don't need it, give it away or just junk it. Then see what is left and if you will need these items then find some storage for them that you will remember where they are if you ever need them.

If you have a pile of different software CDs see if they are outdated and if they are, why do you need them? Get rid of them. If there are CDs that you know you will need and especially ones with codes needed for installation then keep those in a CD case and put stickers on the CD pockets that the CDs should be in.

If you have other CDs you want to keep then if they are in those bulky cases make sure to put them in the CD case as well. You can get CD cases just about anywhere that CDs can be bought. By doing this you will be clearing up a lot of space on your desk and will give you a lot more room to work.

Go through all the different books and any other materials that you have laying around and once again get rid of everything you absolutely don't need. If you run across something that you haven't read or used in over a year, it's more than likely you simply don't need it. Put any remaining books and notebooks on a book shelf off of your desk.

Once you have done this you should go through all of the different office supplies you have on hand. You can always store your pens and pencils in a cute coffee mug and small plastic containers can be used to hold all of your smaller items like tacks, paperclips and other small items. Make sure to label all of your little containers and put them neatly on your bookshelf.

Now comes the dreaded part. All the paper! Bills, your receipts, notes, work forms and this list could go on for an eternity but you pretty much know what falls into the paper category. You will need to sort these things into piles as well. Putting receipts with receipts, bills with bills and so on. Put them into file folders that are clearly labeled what they are and then neatly put them into your file cabinet and make sure that you do this by alphabetical order, it is a lot easier to find what you are looking for if you do it in this manner.

Once all of this is done, you should be able to find your desk top and now have enough space to work more comfortably on the things that you need to work on without all of the clutter.
